Description
If your child is aged between 2 years 6 months and 4 years of age, you might ask yourself - IS MY CHILD SCHOOL READY?
School readiness is a measure of how prepared a child is for school, socially, emotionally and cognitively. The development of these skills is important because it can affect how your child progresses, performs and feels in school.
All staff and volunteers leading the group have many years of knowledge and experience working with young children in local primary schools and are here to support parents and their children at this important stage in their learning journey.
Through fun, educational based activities, we will help parents support their child to learn to share, express themselves, listen to and engage with others, regulate their emotions and develop their confidence, independence and self-care skills.
This half-term the theme of our sessions will be ‘Insects and Animals’. There will be a focus activity each week. For example: caring for a pet, mini-beast hunt, Old MacDonald’s farm, the Rumble in the Jungle story and dinosaur discovery. A range of age appropriate activities and toys will be set out for the children to play with and explore, as another means of aiding skills such as: independence, turn taking, building friendships, being creative and imaginative and using simple tools to help develop fine motor skills.
The theory behind the skills taught will be explained to parents/carers. For example: why it is important to develop core strength, have strong fingers, hear sounds in words, sequence, share, listen to and participate in stories etc. All skills are transferable and will help the children’s development at home too.
The group leader works at a local primary school and has made contact with other primary schools in the area, so links will be made with Reception teaching staff and information will be shared as another means of helping you and your child be ready and prepared for their school journey.
