What The Yoga Factory says
Pregnancy is one of the most amazing experiences of a woman’s life. Many women are surprised by bodily changes and sensations during this special time so a yoga practice can help address some of these changes in a positive way.
Yoga has long been recognised, by doctors and midwives, to be one of the most effective means of easing birth and common symptoms of pregnancy.
Breathing techniques learnt in prenatal yoga can be used at any time during pregnancy and after. The breathing exercises relax the nervous system and bring increased oxygen to the body and therefore the baby. Many women find them very useful during labor to help deal with the surges and later to sooth the baby.
Pregnancy yoga is different from general yoga. Yoga poses are adapted to accommodate the changes in the body and help relieve some of the common ailments, often associated with pregnancy such as: backache, heartburn, nausea etc. By practicing yoga, the body is strengthened and toned. Many women find that through yoga they gain mental and physical comfort; feel more supported and calmer on their big day. Also they regain their shape and fitness quicker after giving birth.
Yoga during pregnancy is generally very safe and is a great way to connect with your baby. The classes are also an opportunity to meet other mums-to-be who live locally.
Suitable for complete beginners or seasoned yogi mums over 12-13 weeks pregnant (usually after first scan).
