What Katie Philpott School of Dance says

Katie Philpott School of Dance is a place where local children and young people feel inspired to dance, where self-expression is encouraged and having fun is mandatory!
Since September 2000, KPSD has grown into one of West Yorkshire’s leading dance academies, offering multi-genre classes to more than 400 students aged from just 2 years!
We have a wide variety of classes to suit all - ballet, modern, tap, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, street, cheerleading, musical theatre and acrobatic arts.
Our ethos is entirely focussed on creating a friendly, homely, and easy-going environment where every student is nurtured and encouraged to be the best they can be.
Our core aim is to provide safe and welcoming spaces where dance is enjoyed for fun and fitness alongside being a respected ISTD examinations centre.
Highlights of our school year include professionally-produced and staged dance shows and we perform at many community events throughout the year. (It’s always up to each student whether they want to take part or not)
As founder and Principal at KPSD, I am proud to work alongside a wonderful team of dedicated and inspirational dance teachers and that many of our former students have themselves progressed to careers in dance or continued their love of dance through university groups and some even come back to enjoy the fun of our adult classes!

Katie is proud that her School has grown from a handful of friends’ children to an award-winning four-studio academy with six teachers and over 400 students!
KPSD has seen many of its students go from learning their ‘naughty toes and good toes’ to dancing professionally around the world – as its’ Principal herself did.
Katie’s own journey in dance began aged five attending classes at her local dance school and she went on to train at Laine Theatre Arts.
Her career as a professional dancer spanned more than 10 years in theatre, cruising the world and travelling around Europe with a big top circus!
Katie returned to her family roots and launched KPSD in 2000 to celebrate her passion for dance with her local community. She has single-handedly overseen the growth of the school into one of the area’s leading academies offering multi-genre dance and musical theatre classes to two to 18-year-olds.
Katie has also developed the school as a respected ISTD examinations centre – a place where dance is taught as a discipline but also for fitness and fun!
She is proud that thousands of students have walked through the doors of KPSD, been welcomed and nurtured and hopefully inspired by their own dance journey.
For Katie, highlights of the school year include the dance and choreographic shows staged at the Lawrence Batley Theatre and she is immensely proud to work every day alongside her team of dedicated dance teachers.
Katie takes pride in personally welcoming every new student to the KPSD family, ensuring the school’s ethos of offering a friendly environment is maintained and continuing to grow KPSD as the area’s favourite dance school.
