LITTLE WHITE CLOUD FOREST SCHOOL

My name is Sarah Lewis I am an Art teacher, Forest School leader and Navy cadet officer, and I am proud to share my passion project, Little White Cloud Forest School. Nestled in the heart of Rushcliffe Country Park, this initiative is dedicated to encouraging local children and their families to embrace the great outdoors.

Little White Cloud Forest School is outdoor and child led, it offers a wealth of learning opportunities within a small, intimate woodland setting. Here, children are invited to explore their creativity by climbing, balancing, building, imagining, and crafting. Each session is thoughtfully divided into three segments: time for free exploration, a dedicated crafting time, and the joy of toasting tasty treats over the fire.

Over the past year, I have had the privilege of getting to know many of the children and families that attend our sessions regularly. This has fostered a warm, friendly and supportive atmosphere, where conversations flourish around the campfire. The diverse learning experiences vary throughout the year, encompassing activities such as potion-making, nature painting, loose parts building, den construction, imaginative play, and an exciting mud/water kitchen area.

Sessions are open to all. However, most suited to 1-7 year olds and are held on Fridays from 10:00 to 11:30, with an additional afternoon option from 13:00 to 14:30 during the summer months. Little White Cloud Forest School sessions are inclusive and all about nurturing a love for nature and creating lasting connections among participants, fostering a sense of adventure and wonder.

There is an area to leave prams in the woodland and most parts are accessible. I would advise bringing a baby carrier for during the session if you are bringing along a sibling under 1 (free of charge). Please dress children in old clothes, long sleeves and trousers are preferable. Bring a change of clothes or waterproof suit and wellies to help keep them warm and dry. Some adults like to bring a mat to kneel on while playing with their children.
